Screening of experiences of integrating indigenous peoples, gender and natural resource management

In 2004, four of the five IGNARM organizations initiated a screening among their partner international organizations to establish an overview of experiences of integrating gender, indigenous peoples and natural resource management. The screening involved the use of two questionnaires: a short questionnaire to establish a broad overview and a follow-up questionnaire to elaborate in more details on some of the experiences encountered through the short questionnaire. The questionnaire formats and the results from each of the four institutions are found below.

Questionnares (one pdf file, 108KB):

  • Short questionnaire on organisations' work on indigenous peoples, gender, and natural resource management
  • Follow-up questionnaire (Questionnaire 2) on organisations' work/experience on indigenous peoples, gender, and natural resource management

IGNARM database

Part of the goal of IGNARM has been to create a database that compiles information on all relevant literature - academic as well as practical - dealing with the interplay of indigenous peoples, gender, and natural resource management which is either available at a Danish library open to the public, or available as full text documents on the internet.

In the database, it is possible to search literature of interest by using free search (keywords, author, title, ISBN etc.) or to choose between different types of literature (books, articles, project documents, policies and strategies).

It is not possible to order literature directly in the database or to check the availability, but under each entry it is possible to see where the material is kept. Danish users can look under contacts in the database for the address of the library where the material is kept, and registered library users can order online. However, it is not possible to take out books from the IWGIA library, but only to read books and other materials at the library during office hours.

So far, the amount of entries in the database dealing with all three subjects: indigenous peoples, gender, and natural resource management is not very extensive. For links to literature dealing with only one of two of the subjects see under references in the ‘state of the art paper’ , or under the various organizations listed under ‘Selected links’.

Should the reader have any suggestions to relevant literature that could be included in the database, please contact Cæcilie Mikkelsen: cm@iwgia.org
